Reading in the Park
Starting last June and continuing on throughout the summer, I lead a summer reading program in my town's Lions park. At this program myself and my fellow Leos would help children make a craft, read a children's story then have a snack. This was themed after the book we were reading that week. This program happened every Tuesday morning all summer long at 10:00 AM.
Every week there was on average 20-30 children there to participate. They came with their daycare providers, grandparents and babysitters This program was free to all who participated and all were welcome. This was a active program designed to get children interested in reading and to show them that books can be fun.
I am very excited because I will be doing this program again this summer and hopefully even more children will come!
